Utah Trip Sep 2008

A long-time friend of mine is getting married this weekend, so tomorrow I’m heading out to Vegas to begin the festivities. She’s actually one of my sister’s best friends, the one we held an engagement party for a few months ago, and we’ve know each other forever it seems.

She had a difficult childhood, and swore for the longest time she’d never get married, yet found the perfect guy and here we are. They randomly met at a mutual friend’s wedding in Las Vegas, kept in touch, visited each other for over a year, then she moved out with him. Amazing how things can work out. They really are perfect for each other.

Anyway, the wedding is going to be very small. They’ve only invited a handful of people each, most of her’s are close friends, while his are family. Interesting mix. They’ve also decided to hold the ceremony in Zion National Park, which is their favorite national park and a spot they’ve spent many weekends exploring. They also hoped all their wedding guests, who are all coming in from out of town, could make a little vacation out of the occasion.

The schedule of activities begins tomorrow. The couple is hosting a evening party at their new house. It’s kind of a combined house warming, combined bachelor & bachelorette parties, friends/family gathering type thing. It seems most of their guests are arriving between tonight and tomorrow, so they figured they’d have everyone over. Then Friday they’ve have their rendition on of a rehearsal dinner, but that will include everyone again. They don’t have wedding parties and the ceremony is apparently stripped down to the basics… their vows, so rehearsing isn’t necessary. Therefore, it’s just another reason to have a great meal and drinks together at a restaurant/bar in the vicinity of the park. Saturday will of course be the wedding and reception. Sunday, from what I understand, the couple has invited everyone back to their house as for another small get-together, however, I can’t stick around for that one.

I’m looking forward to it. I can’t wait to get out and hike around Zion and I’m excited about their wedding. I think the whole thing is sweet. There main focus is truly celebrating with their closest friends and family, without all the stress, which I think is nice.

So, tomorrow I’m flying out… I’m sure some great pictures will coming back with me.
